Position Summary
The Philip H Hagemann Performing Arts Department at the University of Southern Indiana, a public university in Evansville, Indiana, seeks applications for a 9-month Assistant Professor of Theatre. Appointment will begin August 2026.
Duties/Responsibilities
The assistant professor position will be expected to teach primarily face-to-face, design costumes or supervise student costume designers for every USI Theatre production and engage in professional and university service activities. Candidate will teach a 4/4 load that will include one reassigned course time each semester for design assignments. Must be able to teach classes in costume design, stage makeup, costume crafts, theatre history, and introduction to theatre. The successful candidate may teach additional design or technology courses based upon expertise. The successful candidate will be skilled in both hand and digital rendering, fabric modification and hair and wig styling.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Earned Master of Fine Arts in Costume Design. Applicants near completion of their MFA will be considered at the rank of Instructor. If employment starts in August 2026, terminal degree must be completed by the end of July 2027. Professional and/or teaching experience is required.
