Position Summary
The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Teacher, SIJS and Interpreter/Translator.
Provide interpretation and translation services for area industry. Provide instruction in Japanese and related subjects to students enrolled in the Southern Indiana Japanese School (SIJS) and perform other services associated with SIJS.
Duties/Responsibilities
Provide interpreter and translator services for area industry an average of four days per week, including, but not limited to:
• Utilize expert and fluent knowledge of Japanese and English to provide clear oral and written communications across cultures for Japanese staff-related functions and business travelers from Japan.
• Accurately explaining policies, laws, regulations, and procedures of corporate, government, health and medical, housing, social, and educational agencies for those who have little-to-no knowledge of the native language and help them communicate and learn:
o Government procedures for passports, visas, and I-94 forms
o Safety-related training; issuance and renewal of introductory certificates
o Health management: check-ups, vaccinations, medical care, medical billing inquiries, insurance, and emergency interpretation
o Job-posting and relocation-related (Japan to the US): grasping information on job assignments, relocation, hotel arrangements, preparing documents for acceptance
o Orientation-related for new Japanese staff: meetings with Officers, procedures, orientation
o US life start-up: guidebook, appointments with real estate agents
o Return from the US to Japan: relocation, hotel arrangements
o Distribution of materials sent by corporate headquarters in Japan
o Tax return support
o Japanese staff information management: contact information, addresses, emergency contact networks
o Educational counseling sessions, TOEIC (English Language Proficiency Tests)
o Business travel from Japan: grasp of travel information, payments of fees such as technical assistance fees, travel, and shipping costs
o Human resources orientation: preparation and maintenance of materials, scheduling
Provide instruction in Japanese for Southern Indiana Japanese School (SIJS) and other services associated with SIJS on Saturdays (and five Fridays per school year):
• Teach Japanese, mathematics, and other subjects to elementary and junior high school students with textbooks/curriculum used in school in Japan.
• Provide other duties logically associated with the position, which may include one or more of the following:
o Teach English and other subjects to students enrolled in the Southern Indiana Japanese School.
o Counsel students enrolled at the Japanese School with academic, personal, or adjustment issues.
o Teach Japanese to local residents.
o Participate in school events as assigned.
