Position Summary
The Testing Center Manager oversees the daily operations of the library’s testing center, ensuring secure, ethical, efficient, and compliant administration of exams. The Rice Library Testing Center administers placement testing; academic departmental exams and assessments; and professional testing for certifications and revenue-generating exams.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service to patrons and faculty.
- Manage daily operations of the testing center, including scheduling, proctoring, and administering exams (e.g., placement tests, course exams, standardized tests). Remain current on test policies and procedures.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate testing center staff member(s), ensuring consistent service delivery, professional growth, and compliance with emergency procedures. Evaluate testing center programs and staff annually.
- Enforce testing center policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations. Following National College Testing Association standards and the program requirements of testing vendors is a core responsibility.
- Coordinate with faculty and academic departments to schedule exams and accommodate special testing requirements.
- Maintain testing center equipment and software related to exam scheduling and execution, troubleshooting issues and coordinating with IT as needed.
- Resolve user inquiries and issues related to testing, escalating complex cases to the Head of Library Services.
- Collect and report data on testing center usage and outcomes to support assessment and accreditation efforts.
- Participate in cross-training with ILL Manager and Circulation Manager. Create documentation for workflow continuity.
- Communicate effectively and build strong professional relationships with various individuals, including test company personnel, USI faculty, and academic departments.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of experience required.
- Must be a Certified Test Administrator or Test Proctor or be able to gain certification once employed.
- Must be NCTA-certified (National College Testing Association) or willing to become certified.
- Exceptional organizational skills with keen attention to detail required.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software required.
- Must be able to accurately interpret and explain policies to library users.
Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements
- Standard workweek for this position is Tuesday - Saturday 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. with flexibility required
- Extended hours, evenings, or weekends will be required
