Position Summary

The Department of English at the University of Southern Indiana invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English position beginning Fall 2026.

Duties/Responsibilities 

The successful candidate will specialize in English Teaching. Successful candidates will have pedagogical training, expertise, and/or experience in teaching English Language Arts at the secondary education level – including the teaching of ethnic literature, YA literature, and other literature commonly read at the secondary level – the capacity to conduct program reviews based on Indiana state educator standards, and the ability to work collaboratively with education partners in several departments. The position may entail teaching ELA methods courses, advising English Teaching majors, joining various education committees, and serving as a liaison between the English Department and the university Teacher Education Council. English faculty are also expected to teach composition on a regular basis.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Qualified candidates must have a doctoral degree in English or English Education (or related). Applicants with ABD status will be considered at the rank of Instructor if doctoral degree will be completed by the end of their first year of employment. If employment starts in August 2026, terminal degree must be completed by the end of July 2027.
