Position Summary
The Department of History at the University of Southern Indiana, a public University in Evansville, Indiana, seeks applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in History. Appointment will begin Fall 2026.
Duties/Responsibilities
The Assistant Professor will be expected to engage in professional and university service activities and teach 12 credit hours per semester which includes undergraduate departmental course offerings in United States history. The successful candidate will specialize in 19th century United States history, and can teach classes on enslavement and Civil War. The Department is open to expertise in all themes, including (but not limited to) comparative perspectives of the Global South and/or Atlantic World histories, trans-Atlantic enslavement, digital humanities, migration, religion, race, gender and sexuality, and empire.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in History or a closely related field. Applicants with ABD status will be considered at the rank of Instructor if doctoral degree will be completed by the end of their first year of employment. If employment starts in August 2026, terminal degree must be completed by the end of July 2027.
